Spooky symphonies! NPR, Turntable.fm, and Pandora gear up for Halloween

Halloween approaches, and the more creative among radio folk are preparing for the occasion. Turntable.fm has once again broken out the Halloween avatars. Here are some samples:

“They’ll only be here for a limited amount of time,” tt.fm warns, “so enjoy them while they last! Halloween avatars, like lives, are fleeting.”

Meanwhile, Goddess bless NPR, which is offering its supporters, yes way, NPR based stencils for pumpkin carving.

Here is one:

And another:

If you actually inscribe your pumpkin with one of these templates, take a mobile picture  and  send it to NPR. It may wind up on the network’s Facebook page.

Finally, Pandora has cooked up, among other offerings, a “spooky symphonies” channel. You get the Kronos Quartet and conductor Leonard Bernstein renditions of the soundtracks from Psycho, Beetlejuice, Dracula, and Beetlejuice.

And on the “Ghostly Grooves” channel you’ll hear selections from the “Darkwave” genre: Bauhaus, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Salem, LA Vampires and Zola Jesus. Perfect mood music for carving NPR themed pumpkins . . .
