On the occasion of World Radio Day, a special event focused on LPFM opportunities will take place in Seattle today. Brown Paper Tickets is presenting a free community open house and press conference featuring several non-profit groups who plan to apply for new LPFM licenses in Seattle.

The event will take place today (Wednesday, February 13) at Hollow Earth Radio studios (2018A, E. Union Street in Seattle) starting at noon, with a press conference at 12:30 p.m.

Brown Paper Tickets has been working to support LPFM applicants in Seattle and has a full-time staff member devoted to this project. An archived video of its first information session as well as a LPFM toolkit can be found on its website.

Prometheus Radio Project is also using World Radio Day as an opportunity to spread the word about LPFM. Although they don’t have a specific event planned, they are asking people to send comments on the topic of “Why Radio Matters to Me.”
