Sadly I didn’t make it out to New York City for the annual CMJ Music Marathon last week. College Day is always a highlight for me, as it’s a great chance to get to mingle with college radio folks and see college radio-specific panels. The day caps off with the College Radio Awards, in which stations are recognized by their peers for their contributions to college radio. Stations that report to CMJ are allowed to nominate people and stations for awards and voting takes place among registered CMJ Music Marathon attendees.
At this year’s event (which took place on Thursday, October 18), Boston University’s student radio station WTBU was voted station of the year. Community radio station WFMU was recognized for most creative programming, KVRX (University of Texas, Austin) was named best community resource, UCLA Radio was voted best student-run Internet-only station, Pace University’s student radio station WPUB was recognized for best use of limited resources, Concordia University (Montreal) station CJLO was voted biggest champion of the local scene, and biggest improvement went to St. Louis University station KSLU. The CMJ website lists all of the nominees and winners, including those for individual and industry awards.
