With the music portion of the annual South by Southwest (SXSW) festival launching today, there are numerous panels, films, and events for radio fans to choose from. In addition to that, many radio stations have traveled to Austin in order to curate music showcases, interview bands, and broadcast live performances.
Starting tomorrow (Wednesday, March 13, 2013), the official Radio Day Stage begins a series of performances hosted by various radio stations. Badge holders can take in sets by a range of bands, including Vampire Weekend, Emmylou Harris and Devendra Banhart. Participating radio stations include Radionica, KCRW, KCSN, KUTX/WFUV/WXPN/The Current/KXT, and SXSWfm. Performances take place March 13-16 on the fourth floor of the Austin Convention Center in Ballroom D.
KEXP will also be returning to SXSW, hosting live daytime/early evening performances from Wednesday, March 13th through Saturday, March 16th at Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop (400 Nueces Street in Austin). These shows are free and will be broadcast live over KEXP as well. See the KEXP website for the full lineup, which includes Billy Bragg, Robyn Hitchcock, and the Zombies.
