The United Kingdom’s broadcast regulator has opened up sections of Northern England to applications for FM community radio stations. These regions include West and South Yorkshire, Humberside, and North West England. North West England is the third most populous official region of the UK, following Greater London and South East. Yorkshire is the geographically the biggest county in the nation.
Ofcom lists the following counties or cities where applicants can propose FM stations:
• County of Lancashire (including the unitary authorities of Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen)
• Crewe or Nantwich
• Former county of Humberside (East Riding of Yorkshire, Kingston upon Hull, North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire)
• Huddersfield or Halifax or Dewsbury
• Sheffield
• Southport

The agency will consider applications until 5:00 p.m on Tuesday October 15. “A non-refundable fee of £600 will be payable for each application submitted and considered.”
