KRE Building 2013

CHRS Seeks Funds to Purchase Home for Bay Area Radio Museum

Last month we wrote about the California Historical Radio Society (CHRS)’s plans to move from its current home at the KRE building in Berkeley to a new space in Alameda. Due to some ownership changes at the Berkeley location (which is also a transmitter site for KVTO-AM, the descendent of historic radio station KRE), the group needed to find a new building to house the Bay Area Radio Museum and Hall of Fame. Well, the move is now imminent, with CHRS required to leave the KRE building by March 1st.  Additionally, with its pending purchase of a new building in Alameda (dubbed Radio Central), it’s crunch-time for CHRS as far as fundraising goes.

CHRS is hoping to have raised $632,500 by March 1st and needs to reach $1,150,000 by late April in order to be able to fulfill its purchase agreement and have enough funds to improve and maintain the new property in Alameda. Donations can be made on the CHRS website.

Additionally, CHRS could use some help with the long moving process. Volunteers (especially those with trucks and SUVs) are invited to come to KRE (601 Ashby Street) this Saturday, February 8th at 9am to help move boat anchors and bookcases.

February 7th UPDATE: Due to the rain, this Saturday will be a packing day (vs. a moving day).
