The Radio and Internet News (RAIN) newsletter has been running a poll among its readers: “Do you listen to podcasts?”
And the envelope please . . . 78 percent said yes. 19 percent said no. Three percent said they did not know what a podcast is (???).
One interesting RAIN reader response: “We need to get away from the term ‘podcast.’ I haven’t listened to a podcast I downloaded in 3 years. But I listen to archived audio via streaming every day.”
Part of me wanted to headline this piece with a dash of snark: “Shocker: Internet radio news site finds most of its readers listen to podcasts.” After all, who would be more likely to follow podcasts than an Internet radio junkie? But just because RAIN’s audience is tech savvy to the max doesn’t necessarily mean they use every tool at their disposal. So another piece of good news for the podcasting cause.
