LPFM News: 11 More Construction Permits, 7 Dismissals, and a Couple Radio Stations Launch

Following last week’s bumper crop of new LPFM grants, this week a number of applicants also got good news from the FCC, bringing the grand total of granted applications to 1292. Additionally, some stations that have held their construction permits for awhile are starting to get off the ground, with a few launching their first broadcasts. Here’s a run-down of this week’s LPFM news:

11 Applicants Granted Construction Permits for New LPFM Radio Stations

This week’s grants went to a range of groups, including 3 churches, 1 college, and various other non-profits. The new LPFMs were granted to:

Independent Omaha Radio Project, Inc. (Omaha, NE)

South Bergen Community News (Wood Ridge, NJ)

Oregon Peaceworks (Salem, OR)

Sonrise Church DBA Calvary Chapel of Northwest Reno (Reno, NV)

Refuge Church of Atascadero (Atascadero, CA)

Calvary Chapel of Hayward (Hayward, CA)

Cor Christi (Wenatchee, WA)

Columbia Basin College (Pasco, WA)

Synergy Project, Inc. (Midlothian, VA)

Llamados Para Triunfar Inc. (Miami, FL)

Hanford Youth Services (Hanford, CA)

Several Applications in Montana and Michigan Are Dismissed

Six applications for Broadwater County Disaster and Emergency Services were dismissed this weeks. Applications were filed across a number of different cities in Montana and at the time of the applications, Broadwater had a pending application (which was subsequently dismissed) for a full power non-commercial educational station. For that reason, the FCC found that the LPFM applications should never have been accepted for filing and are therefore now dismissed. Additionally, Southkent Cable TV Commission, Inc. (Wyoming, MI) had its application dismissed per applicant’s request.

WQMR and WOHP Officially Launch

On the air since July 1st, WQMR in Rocky Mount, Virginia was just profiled by Radio World for its LPFM Spotlight feature. The station is playing Southern and classic rock, oldies music, as well as various community features. On August 23, WOHP-LP (101.3 FM) in Huntsville, Ohio officially launched. The station will play a mix of music, as well as news and community information.  WOHP will hold an open house on October 11.
