Zapp Seattle renews open hours at Hollow Earth Radio

Zapp Seattle

If I was in Seattle in October I would drop by Hollow Earth Radio just to talk to Zapp Seattle in person about whatever it is that Zapp Seattle is doing these days. Zapp is the Zine Archive and Publishing Project, and it possesses 30,000, yes, that’s right, 30,000 archived zinesStarting next month Zapp will relaunch open hours at HER on third Sundays from four to six PM.

“Come check out some zines, listen to good music, and work on your newest screed, compare binding tips and what not,” Zapp says on its Facebook page. “ZAPP members will be there to answer any questions you have about the organization, and HER and ZAPP members and others will be meeting to talk about the Community Newsroom project at the same time. Bonus! Get in on this!”

The open hours redux comes as Hollow Earth has scored itself a Low Power FM construction permit. From a Second Life stream to a bonifide FM radio station, Hollow Earth is on its way and sharing its resources with all the right folks, it seems.

First ARTxFM and now Hollow Earth; the fruits of years of work and struggle are finally coming to pass.

Before I forget, KPOO-FM in San Francisco has an Oldies Night thing happening on Friday, September 26. Sounds like great fun. Meanwhile the Bandcamp weekly radio show is out and CMJ has an interesting feature on rural Alberta bands. And we’ve got an update on our Facebook page on station WDXD-LP 101.9 in Tallahassee, FL (that’s 10 year old Daniel Best in the control room on the right).

I wonder if this California copyright decision on pre-1972 recordings has any of my oldies deejay friends worried, but that’s for another post.
