The tally of new low-power FM construction permits climbed by another eighteen to 1422 this week. Here are some interesting stations in the group:
Colleges and Universities:
The University of Virginia in Charlottesville will launch student-run WTJX as sister to full-power WTJU. WTJX is already broadcasting as an online station.
The Marshall University Graduate College in South Charleston, WV will also build a student-run station, that will include local news and public affairs programming created by student reporters.
Municipalities:
The City of St. Albans, WV was granted a permit for a station to provide public safety radio services, including traffic and weather hazards, as well as Amber and Silver alerts.
Arts and Cultural Groups:
The Sacramento (CA) French Cultural Society plans programs covering art, music, history, travel and current affairs, as well as “a wide range of multi-lingual and international music programming to encourage cross-cultural exchange[.]”
The J.W. McGhee Foundation for the Broadcast Arts in Lenoir City, TN plans a station dedicated to teach the “art of radio broadcasting.”
The International Radio Project of Kansas City (MO) plans to serve the urban core of the community by providing information about the city’s Hispanic culture.
Community Stations
Lexington (KY) Community Radio will be a project of the North Nicholsville Road Property Owners Association.
New Hampshire Community Radio will serve Northwood, NH with music and local news, and promises to have “remote broadcasts of town meetings.”
