There’s so much going on among our many community radio Facebook page followers that I thought I’d mention a few items:
The Prometheus Radio Project is celebrating the first broadcast of KOGI-LP 97.7 last Tuesday over at Big Pine, California. “It was joy to help the Big Pine Paiute Tribe get on the air,” Prometheus’ Facebook page says. Here’s video of the maiden broadcast.
KDVS of UC Davis, California ran itself a t-shirt contest, and here’s (right) the winner: Haley Belenis’ graphic of what looks to be a snug, radio equipped underground bunker occupied by a very comfy looking groundhog.
Northern Community Radio is sharing independent NPR affiliate KAXE/KBXE’s Beat Cafe, live from the Rail River Folk School. Poets from Minnesota spoke at this recent edition of the event.
KPOO in San Francisco hastens to remind us that Tuesday is Billie Holiday’s birthday. So does WDNA-FM of Miami.
ARTxFM radio wrote in to tell us that the Louisville online station (and soon to be LPFM) will debut the DJ Boom Box at the 2015 Kentucky Derby Pegasus Parade. For you who are doubtless wondering, the DJ Boom Box is a 20 foot shipping container “expertly fabricated into a giant ’80s boom box complete with sound and lights.”
And last but hardly least, Alan McCall of Tallahassee has posted a towering picture of a LPFM transmitter tower. “A 180 foot tower has been constructed for new LPFM radio station WDXD-LP 101.9 in Tallahassee, Florida,” reads the caption. “We hope to be on the air by late spring with a local classic country and nostalgia format.” That is indeed some kind of tower.
