Next time your musical ensemble is about to do a big concert, take a lead from this group and do a warm up performance first at a nearby community radio station. Here’s a YouTube of Balkan Alien Sound getting limber with a few songs at Connemara Community Radio just before the band went live at Mullarkey’s Bar for the Clifden Arts Festival in County Galway, Ireland. It all happened on September 26th.
Connemara bills itself as “one of the smallest radio stations operating in Ireland” with an audience of around 12,000 people (maybe double that over the summer). It is run by volunteers and has been broadcasting since 1995. No surprise that the station is all over the Clifden event, which is the longest running community arts festival in that country.
