Respected music and media journalist Ben Fong-Torres talked with my fellow Radio Survivors Jennifer Waits and Matthew Lasar for a piece about community radio in the San Francisco Chronicle. It’s online now and will appear in print in the Sunday, October 1 edition.
While community radio stations get occasional news coverage when something notable happens–like a station launch or special event–community radio in general gets less frequent notice. So it’s gratifying to see Fong-Torres dedicate an entire piece to the subject, treating it in a tone that is respectful and serious, rather than naïve or patronizing. It’s doubly gratifying that he turned to two of the Bay Area’s most knowledgable authorities on the subject (not that I’m biased or anything).
If you’re coming by our little corner of the web for the first time after reading it, let me suggest that you dip into our archives. You can learn all about low-power FM (LPFM), which Fong-Torres mentioned several times, college radio, all kinds of fun radio stuff, or listen to our podcast. We’ve been here for eight years, so there’s plenty to keep you entertained and informed.
Thanks again to Ben Fong-Torres for shining a little light on community radio and Radio Survivor.
