Although it’s the dead of summer, here’s a quick summary of some recent college radio news:

WBGU DJ and Co-Music Director Wins DJ Competion

Brody Ramone, a DJ from WBGU-FM at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, will be heading to Zurich, Switzerland this September in order to compete in the International Radio Festival (IRF). She was just announced as the winner of the IRF 2013 Best US/Canada Campus Radio Contest. I’m feeling an extra bit of pride for Brody Ramone, as I was a DJ at WBGU back in the 1990s.

CBI Announces Location for 2014 Conference

College Broadcasters Inc. just announced that the location for its 2014 convention will be in Seattle, Washington from October 23-25, 2014. With the 2012 event in Atlanta and this year’s event in San Antonio this October, this will be the first time that a solo CBI National Student Electronic Media Convention will be held on the west coast.

WSUM Featured in Article about “New Frontiers for Local Radio”

A piece in Isthmus delves into the future of radio and profiles University of Wisconsin-Madison station WSUM. The article asks, “Do small, independent stations staffed by volunteers, places like WSUM and WORT 89.9 FM, have a future? And can college radio still provide an entry into the music industry.”

KMSM Fires 18 Volunteer DJs and Goes on Automation for Summer

An article earlier this summer reveals that Montana Tech’s radio station KMSM 103.9 underwent some changes following the dismissal of 18 volunteer DJs.  Last month it was reported that the station was also in limbo as far as its license renewal goes following the FCC’s investigation of an indecency complaint regarding a May 2009 broadcast.
