College Radio Watch: Met Radio Tour, CBI Announces 2017 Event in San Antonio, and More News

I’m catching up on my radio station tour reports and this week published a piece about my visit to college radio station Met Radio at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Be sure to catch next week’s Radio Survivor Podcast to learn even more about that field trip and hear audio from my tour.

CBI Announces that 2017 Event will be in San Antonio

Also this week, College Broadcasters Inc. (CBI) announced details about its 2017 National Student Electronic Media Convention. The 6th annual conference will take place November 2-4, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio. This year’s event is happening in Philadelphia from October 20th to 22nd, 2016 and proposals are still being accepted for panels and sessions.

Former Rice University Radio Frequency Sold to Christian Broadcaster

And, somewhat college radio-related, Rice University’s old KTRU-FM frequency, 91.7 FM, whose license was sold to University of Houston (after much protest from KTRU supporters), has been sold again. Houston Public Media reports that the license sale (which has been in the works since at least last summer) for the fledgling classical radio station (now known as KUHA) has been finalized. The station was sold to Christian radio station KSBJ. Meanwhile, student radio continues at Rice University station KTRU Rice Radio both online and over the station’s new low power FM (LPFM) channel KBLT-LP at 96.1 FM in Houston, Texas.
